Starting with the Friday morning foursomes, not one match went to the 18th hole. After four matches the US went down 4-0, not great. Hopefully, it would turn around in the afternoon four-ball sessions, nope. Matt Fitzpatrick made four birdies in a row and went up six in the first seven holes, so it did not give Xander Schauffle, nor Collin Morikawa a chance to make up any ground. Despite that, the US had three out of the four matches with a lead, yet not one group could come away with a win and a point. Jordan Speith and Justin Thomas lost holes 14 and 15 and halved the match. Brooks Koepka and Scottie Scheffler could not close on 18 and halved the match. Finally, Max Homa and Wyndham Clark missed a few crucial putts down the stretch, which cost them each of the last two holes, ending the match in a half point each.  What Went Wrong? 5-Star Recruit Requests Release from NLI to Duke By: Bobby Cushing 5-Star recruit Mackenzie Mgbako has requested a release from his National Letter of Intent to Duke.  Mgbako is the 7th ranked player in the class of 2023, and the 3rd ranked player in New Jersey.  On April 8, 2022, Mackenzie Mgbako committed to Duke over Kentucky, Memphis, and Ohio State. He signed his letter of intent in November of 2022, but just a year after he committed to Jon Sheyer and Duke, he requested his NLI release and reopened his recruitment, per his Twitter.  When Mgbako committed, his ‘top 4’ were Duke, Kentucky, Memphis, and Ohio State, but he also had offers from UNC, Michigan, UConn, UCLA, and more.  Crystal Balls from various recruiting pages still project him to return to Duke, but from everything else, it seems he “will not attend” Duke.  Kentucky and Memphis are the two other schools Mgbako visited during his recruitment, Kentucky on October 15 and Memphis on October 29. It looks like Ed Cooley is finally becoming the next head coach of Georgetown University, truly becoming “The American Dream”.  Cooley spent his last 12 years at Providence coaching the Friars to a 242-153 record, including 7 NCAA appearances, a Big East regular season championship, and a Big East Conference Tournament Championship. Cooley was also named the 2021-22 Big East Coach of the Year and Naismith National Coach of the Year.  The 2021-22 season was Cooley’s best as a college coach. Providence went 27-6 (14-3 in the Big East) and made the Sweet Sixteen before losing to Kansas. But Cooley’s animated personality and loud coaching style attracted fans and he was able to show off what kind of coach he is.
