Creighton defeated UConn for their first win against a number one team in the country in school history.  What a day in college basketball. Once again, the sport that reigns supreme shows off incredibly.  In case you were under a rock yesterday, Creighton took down the number one team in the country, two ranked Big 12 teams faced off, and there was action all across the bubble.  Down Go The Huskies! After a rough first couple of minutes and back-to-back turnovers, Creighton’s offense settled in. The Huskies and the Bluejays looked like they were in store for an instant classic, and then Donovan Clingan checked out for UConn due to foul trouble. In the time while he checked out (eight minutes, eleven seconds) Creighton shot an absurd 9/11 from the field for 24 points. They were opposed to 2/7 for 5 points while Clingan was on the court. (AP Photo/Jessica Hill) With 27 days until selection Sunday, we will finally find out the 68 teams that will continue their season with the hope of becoming national Champions. This season has been filled with dominant teams, heartstopping performances, and cruel upsets.  The biggest story this season outside of the debate about whether or not Purdue is a real contender is “Is UConn really this good, again?” The Huskies just came off the biggest win of the season in what was supposed to be one of the best matchups in college basketball this year when Marquette traveled to Connecticut. What was the result? Nothing but absolute domination.  The Huskies were up two dozen by halftime and nearly ended up doubling Marquette’s score by the time the game ended.  Will UConn walk to another National Championship? Can Zach Edey end his college career with a memorable comeback story? Or will it be a first-time champ who will start a new dynasty in college sports? City: East (Boston) ...

Photo courtesy of Maddie Meyer/Getty Images With other big news coming out of the Big Ten earlier with the firing of Chris Holtmann, what other coaches could, or should, be on the hot seat? One of the more obvious choices is Michigan’s Juwan Howard. Since the turn of the calendar, Michigan is an astonishing 2-10 with wins over Ohio State and Wisconsin. Howard came to Michigan in 2019 with the hope of establishing a new ‘Fab Five.’ Outside of 2020, it has not been anywhere near the success anyone expected.  Howard only has one season over 20 wins and a 3-2 record in the NCAA Tournament. With an 87-65 career record at Michigan, it would not be too much of a surprise if the school looked to move on.  However, earlier today Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel said he had not thought about making changes to the program, which includes the head coaching position.  Despite a record of 8-17 this season, Manuel seems to be confident in Howard going forward as he had a similar ...

Photo courtesy of Adam Cairns, Columbus Dispatch/USA Today News broke just as the morning wrapped up that Ohio State has “parted ways” with Chris Holtmann, according to Jeff Goodman. In these past seven years, Holtmann went 137-86 with four NCAA Tournament appearances, including in 2020-21 when Holtmann’s Buckeye’s were a two seed. However, over the past two years, the program has taken a bit of a dip. With a record of 9-25 in Big Ten Conference action, Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith decided to start the coaching search now.  Initial reports suggest Xavier’s Sean Miller and South Carolina’s Lamont Paris will be heavily considered. I would expect Alabama’s Nate Oats, Creighton’s Greg McDermott, and possibly even Bobby Hurley from Arizona State could also be in the running.  In the seven years leading up to Thad Matta’s exit from Columbus in 2017, Ohio State had a record of 181-67 with a Final Four appearance.
