Creighton defeated UConn for their first win against a number one team in the country in school history. 


What a day in college basketball. Once again, the sport that reigns supreme shows off incredibly.  In case you were under a rock yesterday, Creighton took down the number one team in the country, two ranked Big 12 teams faced off, and there was action all across the bubble. 


Down Go The Huskies!


After a rough first couple of minutes and back-to-back turnovers, Creighton’s offense settled in. The Huskies and the Bluejays looked like they were in store for an instant classic, and then Donovan Clingan checked out for UConn due to foul trouble. In the time while he checked out (eight minutes, eleven seconds) Creighton shot an absurd 9/11 from the field for 24 points. They were opposed to 2/7 for 5 points while Clingan was on the court. In the blink of an eye, and what seemed to be endless Steven Ashworth three-pointers, Creighton walked into halftime up 43-29 as they ended the half on a 22-6 run in the final eight minutes. 


The unfortunate news for UConn was that Creighton was just getting started. The Bluejays finished 14-for-28 from deep, compared to 3-for-16 from the Huskies. Ashworth, Trey Alexander, Ryan Kalkbrenner, and Baylor Sheierman all finished in double figures, they combined for 63 points. 


BYU Outlasts Baylor 78-71


Baylor started this game 3-for-3 from three and went off to a 16-8 lead just 7 minutes into the game. BYU was quite the contrary, going a measly 2-for-11 in the first 10 minutes. 


The two highest-scoring teams in the Big 12 would soon get hot as the game went back and forth. BYU took a 42-37 lead into the locker room. 


The Cougars came out hotter than Baylor and it showed. They finished with 14 makes from deep. Baylor made a late scare, but BYU walked away with victory, 78-71. 


Bubble Action Everywhere


On top of all the upsets, we still have to cover some of the action on the bubble. 


Five teams took to the court on Tuesday and found themselves on Joe Lunardi’s Bubble. 


Texas A&M, who has one of the last four byes, lost to an underwhelming Arkansas team 78-71.


Pitt and Wake Forest faced off and are both on the outside looking in. Both teams need a win, Wake Forest dominates at home 91-58. The Demon Deacons end tonight’s route with 60/50/95 splits. 


Another matchup of bubble teams took place in the Big East as Villanova defeated Butler 72-62. Eric Dixon led the Wildcats with 22 points and nine rebounds.


March is right around the corner.

Transfer Portal Watchlist: RB Deion Hankins

But after back-to-back losing seasons, Hankins has hit the transfer portal.  He was a member of the All Conference-USA FreshmanTeam in 2020 and the  All Conference-USA Second Team in 2022  Rushing for over 800 yards on 157 attempts (5.2 yards per carry) along with five touchdowns, Hankins contributed to a majority of the Miner's success on the ground this year.  While watching Hankins you can see he is a bruiser coming from the backfield, almost like a wrecking ball. Hankins looks for contact. Zappe Time?

No Mac, no problem? Not so fast, but Bailey Zappe could be a guy.  The Patriots fell victim to Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay on Sunday, 27-24 in overtime. All things considered, the game turned out much better than most Patriot fans expected with Mac Jones out. Brian Hoyer was slated to start and did until Isaiah Wynn decided to become a revolving door and let Rashan Gary blow up his shoulder.  In stepped Bailey Zappe, a fourth-round pick out of Western Kentucky. In his last season at WKU, he passed for over 5,900 yards and 62 touchdowns, which are both NCAA records.  Zappe overall played well over expectations, completing 10 of 15 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown.  Much like Mac last year, Zappe was not given the opportunity to really let the ball fly.
