College Basketball Games of the Day + Bets



Times are great when there’s college basketball on at 11:30 a.m.Today’s slate is LOADED, maybe not with great games, but the amount of basketball that we all get to take in today is beautiful. 


Tournaments are still underway, including the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic and the Baha Mar Hoops - Bahamas Championship between the Georgia Bulldogs and the twelfth-ranked Miami Hurricanes. 


Let’s get into some of the games of the day and of course, the bets.


Games of the Day


Maryland at No. 21 Villanova (-5.5) o/u133.5 - Gavitt Tipoff Games


Both teams are coming off losses to inferior opponents. Maryland lost to UAB by three and Villanova was upset by Penn 76-72. Maryland has not shot the ball well this year. Four of their top five starters have a field goal percentage of 38% or worse, and the Terrapins rank 246th in the country in team field goal percentage. On the other hand, Villanova shoots 45.3% from the field. Nova also has Justin Moore, who at his best is one of the best players in the Big East. 


Prediction: Villanova wins and covers. 


Butler at No. 18 Michigan State (-9.5) o/u139.5 - Gavitt Tipoff Games


Michigan State suffered a historic loss to James Madison on the team’s first game of the year. They also fought hard against Duke but fell to them as well. This is a team that was ranked #4 in the entire country, now they are on the cusp of becoming unranked. The Spartans don’t shoot the deep ball well at all, starting at 6% through the first five quarters of the season. They are matched against a great backcourt in Butler. St. John’s transfer Posh Alexander and former Michigan State Spartan Pierre Brook II. Both players average over 13 points per game. They also have Sophomore guard D.J. Davis, who scores 13.7 a game as well. 


Prediction: Michigan State wins and covers.


Kansas St at Providence (-1.5) o/u146.5


Since Ed Cooley’s departure to Big East rival Georgetown, Kim English has stepped in and done nothing but win. Providence has two legitimate threats in Junior guard Devin Carter and 6’7” Forward/Guard Bryce Hopkins. Providence is coming off a dominant performance against Wisconsin. Kansas State took an opening night loss to USC 82-69. Since then they won convincingly against Bellarmine and San Diego State. North Texas transfer Tylor Perry is averaging over 20 points and is shooting 48% from deep. Jerome Tang is going to have his hands full, but if anyone is going to succeed with that, it is Coach Tang. 


Prediction: Kansas State wins and covers. The over hits too.

Transfer Portal Watchlist: RB Deion Hankins

Photo Courtesy of Univerity of Texas at El Paso By: Bobby Cushing As a high school recruit Deion Hankins held offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Utah before eventually committing to UTEP. But after back-to-back losing seasons, Hankins has hit the transfer portal.  He was a member of the All Conference-USA FreshmanTeam in 2020 and the  All Conference-USA Second Team in 2022  Rushing for over 800 yards on 157 attempts (5.2 yards per carry) along with five touchdowns, Hankins contributed to a majority of the Miner's success on the ground this year.  While watching Hankins you can see he is a bruiser coming from the backfield, almost like a wrecking ball. Hankins looks for contact. Zappe Time?

No Mac, no problem? Not so fast, but Bailey Zappe could be a guy.  The Patriots fell victim to Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay on Sunday, 27-24 in overtime. All things considered, the game turned out much better than most Patriot fans expected with Mac Jones out. Brian Hoyer was slated to start and did until Isaiah Wynn decided to become a revolving door and let Rashan Gary blow up his shoulder.  In stepped Bailey Zappe, a fourth-round pick out of Western Kentucky. In his last season at WKU, he passed for over 5,900 yards and 62 touchdowns, which are both NCAA records.  Zappe overall played well over expectations, completing 10 of 15 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown.  Much like Mac last year, Zappe was not given the opportunity to really let the ball fly.
